Joshua “Noncentz” Perez (JP) started Krumping in 2006 when he was just 14, but he’s been dancing since the age of 6. He’s an OG in the East from Providence, Rhode Island. Jp was first inspired to Krump when he was an advertisement on tv for RIZE. The movements immediately caught his attention and so he set out to find out more. When he finally saw the movie, Krump immediately grew on him. “That last session in the movie was just DOPE!” he tells me. His favorite part was when the Krumpers were collectively yelling out “ Rize, my people gon’ RIZE!” After watching Rize, Jp looked for groups in the movement hoping to build a network of other Krumpers to learn more about the culture and fundamentals. Through his browsing, he found the Krump King’s movement/forums, an old forum that connected many Krumpers across the US, and supported their dance growth because all of the experience Krumpers used it and shared their knowledge.
Jp’s big homie aka is NONCENTZ--- which JP describes him to be a time traveler. If Noncentz had a tag line, it would be “Been there. Done that.” Basically, it’s the perspective that Noncentz as experienced Krumper that has already seen countless battles, sessions, and performances, so when he competes, battle and/or showcase performances, Noncentz draws from his past experience in from these areas and in turn makes him feel confident he’ll kill off because he’s already done it countless times before. Noncentz is a smooth dancer that likes to make his Krump movements as clean as possible. As a time-traveler, Noncentz’s character will carry over the energy he has received in past sessions or events and uses that energy in events happening in the present to get him going. He uses this concept especially when the hype (energy) from the other Krumpers is dry.
His other aka Twinn Brui5er, is Brui5er’s twin brother. This is why the Brui5er name uses the number (5) instead of an “S.” The Brui5er dance style is brawlic and un-tamed Krump, however, as a person, he is calm in nature. The best way to describe it is as JP told did for me, he’s the quiet person on the block that can fight.
Favorite Krumpers:
Tight Eyez & Mijo
Daisy because she’s uncompromising to who she is.
Brui5er he’s just completely electrifying and he’s an embodiment of Krump.
Enforcer because of his rawness.
Konkrete because he’s really a student of Krump.
Spartan because he’s the personification of what people try to imitate in Krump -- NY fitted, puffy jacket and ready to go.
Syke Out because of his grooves, combos and level changes
Noncentz Lab Break Down
Jp usually goes into the lab with a general goal of developing at least three new materials. And if he can’t think of three but if he can’t think of 3 new materials, he will focus his energy on further developing materials he already created. These days, he usually labs for 1-2 hours just about every other day. “If you have one hour of a constructive, productive lab, you don’t need 5 hours,” Jp said. One of the main focuses in his lab is to discover what his body is capable of. At the same time he’s discovering new movements, he also tries to break out of bad habits or repetitive moments. For example, if he realizes that he’s been using his right arm way more than his left, he would put his right hand in this pocket and train only using his left arm-- or he would put both hands in his pocket and the only train on his bottom half or footwork.
Lastly, Jp also advises Krumpers not to force their lab-- meaning that if you don’t feel inspired, don’t force your practice instead take a break and study footage, the history of the culture, or lab with others that with a completely different style from your for inspiration and new creativity.
Lil Homies
When it comes down to lil homies, Jp is straight to the point-- he isn’t looking for lil homies who clout chase, but a person who truly wants to be part of the Krump culture beyond the dance itself. That’s one of his main expectations because that how he generally feels about Krump, to him the dance is important but understanding the culture of Krump is just as or even more important. People who want a Noncentz rank must be self-sufficient. For example, a lil homie who would look up sessions and events and go to them regardless if JP decides to go or not. Jp expressed that the Krump network is amazing and full for bright people-- the dance also brought him great friends and that’s why he wants lil homies who are self-motivated to personally engage the Krump community. Of course, that doesn’t mean his lil homies life has to around Krump, but its simply for them to have a genuine interest and respect for the dance.
